This workshop will cast a glance forward to January 2010 and
look at the post-AVMSD landscape, examining in particular the
following questions:
- What are the emerging platforms for the supply of on-demand
services ?
- How many on-demand services are available in Europe?
- What growth can we forecast in this market?
- How does the now in force AVMSD define an on-demand service
and how is this transposed into the various national laws?
- Just who is doing the monitoring?

30th meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA)

At the invitation of the Directors’
Conference of the State Media Authorities (DLM) in cooperation with
the regional regulatory authority for private broadcasting and new media
from Saxony (SLM).
On the agenda of this meeting will be the following issues:
- Non-Linear Services: Market Evolution and Regulatory Challenges,
- Political Advertising,
- Self-Promotion and Cross-Promotion,
- Media Pluralism,
- The Transposition and Implementation of the AVMS Directive.
Dr. Susanne Nikoltchev, Head of the Department for
Legal Information of the Observatory, will attend the conference and
participate in the various workshops.

Evolution of the European TV News market

The European Commission (DG Communication) and the European Audiovisual
Observatory announce this year's MAVISE Television seminar - What's
New in the News?
This workshop will look at the latest developments in the European
news market and will also give you a chance to see the MAVISE television
database (http://mavise.obs.coe.int)
which holds freely accessible information on over 6,500 channels in
Europe. All holders of a MIP COM market accreditation may attend this
seminar free of charge.
During this workshop, presentations will be made on:
- The MAVISE database on TV channels and TV companies in Europe :
a unique tool for TV professionals
- An overview of European news channels (based on MAVISE data)
- The impact of convergence on the news market - Presentation of
a recent report by Headway International
- Specific issues in the measurement of TV news channels audience
- Point of view of a European news agency
The workshop will be followed by a cocktail on the stand of the DG
Communication (Hall Lérins 3.05)

in the process of developing?

In the year 2009 - Accompanying the transposition of the Audiovisual
Media Services Directive
(Saarbrücken, Germany)
Workshop co-organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory, the
Institute for European Media Law (EMR).
Francisco Cabrera-Blazquez and Susanne Nikoltchev
will attend this closed workshop.
Set up in December 1992, the European Audiovisual Observatory's mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body comprised of 36 member states and the European Community, represented by the European Commission. It operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe and works alongside a number of partner and professional organisations from within the industry and with a network of correspondents. In addition to contributions to conferences, other major activities are the publication of a Yearbook, newsletters and reports, the compilation and management of databases and the provision of information through the Observatory's Internet site.
