Working meeting on cultural diversity (Paris)

Participation of André Lange to a working meeting organised by the Consultative Committee of the General Secretariat of Francophonia in order to define the relevant fields for a study which will be carried out in parallel to the negotiations concerning the adoption by the UNESCO of a Convention on cultural diversity.

Conference: "Film Financing in Europe – policy, strategy and effect"

This conference is organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory in collaboration with the European Investment Bank (BAFTA, London).

Analyst, Tim Westcott will present the Observatory’s new report on the funding of the film and audiovisual industry in Europe. Guest speakers will include John Woodward, chief executive of the UK Film Council, David Kessler, director-general of France’s CNC, Renate Roginas, Executive Secretary of Eurimages, and John McVay, chief executive of PACT.

Conference organised by the Greek Presidency of the EU, Thessaloniki, Greece

In this conference representatives not only from the 25 European member states that will constitute the new European reality, will participate in order to collect their sensibility and their thoughts in the search for solutions to the increasing problems that cinema and audiovisual industry will face after the enlargment of the European Union. The aim of Thessaloniki conference will be an overall reflection, in order to submit some concrete suggestion in the field of cinema and audiovisual sector and to form some positions on a European policy that will connect the artistic creation with the initiatives taken by the Community institutions with the expectations of certain sectors of the European audiovisual industry.

Set up in December 1992, the European Audiovisual Observatory's mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body comprised of 39 member states and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe and works alongside a number of partner and professional organisations from within the industry and with a network of correspondents. In addition to contributions to conferences, other major activities are the publication of a Yearbook, newsletters and reports, the compilation and management of databases and the provision of information through the Observatory's Internet site.
