Job Forum, Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France)

 

The European Audiovisual Observatory took part in the Council of Europe’s Job Forum with its own stand. This was the occasion for numerous staff members of the Council to obtain information about the mission and practical work of the Observatory.

This was an excellent event organised by the Council’s Human Resources Policy and Development Division which contributed greatly to increasing the visibility of the European Audiovisual Observatory within the Council of Europe.

Dr. Susanne Nikoltchev, Head of the Observatory’s Department for Legal Information, will attend this conference and participate in the workshops organised. This is a closed conference.

IRIS Editorial Board Meeting (Strasbourg, France)

Participation of the members of the Editorial Board and also this time of the members of the IRIS Network. Representing the European Audiovisual Observatory are Dr. Susanne Nikoltchev, Head of the Observatory’s Department for Legal Information, Francisco Cabrera, the Department’s Legal Analyst and Michelle Ganter, the Department’s Assistant.

IRIS Think Tank 2004 - Round Table Discussion with the IRIS Network (Strasbourg, France)

At the end of this year, IRIS Legal Observations of the European Audiovisual Observatory celebrates its tenth anniversary. On this occasion, the Observatory is inviting to its headquarters in Strasbourg all of its correspondents and partner organisations who create the content of this newsletter in collaboration with the Observatory. It is our goal to draw up an appraisal of this extremely successful publication as well as of its sister publications which have been created over the past few years (IRIS plus and IRIS Special) and the IRIS Merlin database and to plan the future of these publications.

Taking part will be Wolfgang Closs, Executive Director of the European Audiovisual Observatory, Dr. Susanne Nikoltchev, Head of the Observatory’s Department for Legal Information, Francisco Cabrera, the Department’s Legal Analyst, Michelle Ganter, the Department’s Assistant as well as other members of the Observatory’s team.

New Technologies and Piracy : a Challenge to the Audiovisual Industries.
Conference organised within the framework of the French Presidency of the European Audiovisual Observatory (Paris, France)

This conference will bring together the major players concerned by audiovisual piracy: industry representatives, companies, associations, government institutions and the media. The opening speech will be made by Mr Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, the French Minister for Culture and Communication.

The panels discussions and debates will be based on 3 topics:
- Where does piracy start?
- What is the impact on the audiovisual industries?
- From the findings to action : the solutions.

Set up in December 1992, the European Audiovisual Observatory's mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body comprised of 39 member states and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe and works alongside a number of partner and professional organisations from within the industry and with a network of correspondents. In addition to contributions to conferences, other major activities are the publication of a Yearbook, newsletters and reports, the compilation and management of databases and the provision of information through the Observatory's Internet site.
