Public investment in culture and communications
(Brussels, Belgium)

The Institute for Media Economics (IEM) of Fondazione Rosselli will be presenting, at the European Parliament in Brussels, 22nd November at 6:30 pm, room ASP 3G3, the study “Public investment in culture and communications ”.

CineKid Professional Conference (part of the CineKid Festival)

The CineKid Media Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

To celebrate the event the CineKid Professional conference has commissioned a new report from the European Audiovisual Observatory on the circulation in European cinemas of films for children and the programming of animation on European television. Written by Susan Newman Baudais and Martin Kanzler, the report will be presented by Observatory market analyst Susan Newman Baudais in Amsterdam on 18th October 2011.

34th EPRA meeting

Susanne Nikoltchev, Head of the Department for Legal Information of the Observatory, will attend the conference and participate in the various workshops. Participation of 140 representatives of audiovisual regulatory authorities from over 40 countries in Europe.

This is a closed event. Participation upon invitation only.

On the agenda:

  • the challenges of jurisdiction in the regulation of on-demand content,
  • effective monitoring of audiovisual media services,
  • product placement,
  • licensing issues for digital TV,
  • the protection of minors in the new media environment (industry panel).

assisted by the coordinator of the EPRA Secretariat, Emmanuelle Machet.

Mr Furnémont and the Observatory's Executive Director, Wolfgang Closs, renewed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Observatory and the EPRA for the year 2012.

Set up in December 1992, the European Audiovisual Observatory's mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body comprised of 39 member states and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe and works alongside a number of partner and professional organisations from within the industry and with a network of correspondents. In addition to contributions to conferences, other major activities are the publication of a Yearbook, newsletters and reports, the compilation and management of databases and the provision of information through the Observatory's Internet site.
