Sophie Valais joined the European Audiovisual Observatory as Legal Analyst in October 2014. She has extensive and diversified experience in the audiovisual sector gained in different European countries, working as legal expert in both public and private organisations. She started her career in Brussels where, after a brief experience at the European Commission, she worked for a US international law firm in charge of telecommunications and IT clients. She then moved to the film industry joining the French CNC, where she was responsible for European affairs, before specialising in authors’ and performers’ rights in the music and audiovisual fields as EU affairs legal adviser at collective management societies in Paris and Madrid. She continued working on a regular basis with the European Commission as legal expert in twinning projects within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy. She graduated in Law at the University of Paris 11, with specialisation in private commercial law and international trade law and she is the author of several articles on copyright and European law in specialised legal publications.
