Description

As Deputy Head of the Department for Legal Information at the European Audiovisual Observatory, Sophie Valais regularly contributes to the legal publications of the Observatory, manages EU-funded projects within the department and participates in the organisation of Observatory events and conferences. Before joining the Observatory in 2014, Sophie developed a broad and diversified expertise in the audiovisual sector, acquired in public and private entities in different European countries. In particular, she strengthened my her competences in European and IT law by starting her professional career as a Legal Adviser for a large international law firm in Brussels; she discovered the diversity of support policies to the sector as a Policy Adviser in charge of European Affairs for many years at the National Cinema Centre (CNC) in Paris; one of Sophie’s main areas of expertise is copyright and related rights, which she acquired while serving as a Legal Adviser for over 15 years with collective management societies in Paris, Brussels and Madrid and as an Expert on European Union projects. Sophie Valais holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the Jean Monnet Faculty of Law, University of Paris-Sud 11, France.
