How are social media, influencers and AI transforming news and journalism? And what can be done to safeguard journalists and access to trustworthy information in Europe?
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, from 20:00 to 21:30, Maja Cappello, our Head of the Department for Legal Information, will take part in a debate on journalism and democracy in the age of AI, focusing on trust in the media.
Together with Oliver Schenk, Member of the European Parliament, and Andreas Lamm, Executive Director of the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), she will discuss how social media, influencers, video platforms and AI chatbots are transforming the way people access information, and whether these developments represent a threat to quality journalism or could also create new opportunities.
The debate will be held in English, followed by a cocktail reception.
The event is organised by the Association Parlementaire Européenne, supported by the City of Strasbourg, the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace, the Région Grand Est and the Préfecture de la Région Grand Est.
