Key insights:
1. All roles considered, the proportion of women in European film production assignments grew slowly, from 19% in 2015 to 24% in 2023 (in this report, Europe refers to EU27, Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye and the United Kingdom).

Between 2019 and 2023, the proportion of women was at around 30% for producers, editors, screenwriters and directors, and at 12% for cinematographers and 10% for composers.

2. The low proportion of women results from a combination of factors:
a) A low proportion of women working as active professionals

3. Considering all roles, the share of women-driven teams in the production of European films was 10% between 2019 and 2023.

In this context, “female-driven” refers to feature films by a majority (≥ 60%) of female professionals, considering all roles covered in this report.
