What are European countries doing to protect children and young people from harmful online content?

If you've ever wanted to know more about the concrete measures taken by European countries to ensure that our children and young people benefit from safe screens, then read our new report. We're looking at the main piece of EU media law -  the AVMSD - which contains many measures aimed at protecting the young:

  • HARMFUL CONTENT ON VIDEO SHARING PLATFORMS: how is harmful content defined and what is really harmful in practice?

  • MEASURES PROTECTING MINORS AT NATIONAL LEVEL: What are the various provisions in the AVMSD and how does each European country apply them at national level? This chapter looks at mechanisms such as reporting and flagging methods, age verification and parental control.

  • ENFORCEMENT: What is the role of the National Regulatory Authorities in each country and how do they assess measures put in place by the video sharing platforms? What sanctions exist in the case of non respect of the AVMSD and how do they work?

  • VSPS' MEASURES IN PRACTICE: What are the concrete measures put in place by VSPs and how do they work when young people create an account, log in and start watching?

Let our brand new report by the European Audiovisual Observatory walk you though the AVMSD - the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. Find out which parts of the AVMSD are working to ensure safe screens and protect minors from harmful content online.
