A Draft federal law amending the Audiovisual Media Services Act, the KommAustria Act, the ORF Act and the Private Radio Act was published by the ministry. Stakeholders have time until 16 October to file their comments/remarks. The Government of the German Community has adopted a preliminary draft decree on media services in July 2020. The Government decided to request the opinion of the Chamber of Experts of the Media Council, the Interministerial Committee for Telecommunications, Radio and Television, the Data Protection Authority and of the German-speaking Community for Self-Determined Life.

A designated working group along with the competent national authorities has completed the process of revising articles of the AVMSD into a preliminary draft law. The first debates of the law in Parliament took place on 13 June 2019. A detailed discussion of the law in Parliament took place on 17 June 2019. The law entered the legislative procedure on 27 June 2019. The law was approved on 3 July 2019. Four days later, the law was signed by the President and on 8 July 2019, it was published in the Hungarian Gazette.
